Two German Shepherds found abandoned on a country road in South Carolina need help.
Their heartless owner left them on the side of a country road in Anderson, South Carolina where they – being the good and loyal German Shepherds that they are – waited for days for him or her to return.
A nice woman who lived in the area saw the poor dogs and took them in. For two weeks, the woman hoped their owner would return. She even shared photos of the two German Shepherds hoping to find their owner. But even after more than a thousand shares, no one reached out to her to claim the dogs.
On Sunday, the Anderson County Humane Society made room for the German Shepherds, who they named Odysseus and Penelope, despite being full.
As if being abandoned isn’t bad enough, the two German Shepherds are also in terrible shape. What’s more saddening is Penelope seems to have recently given birth to puppies since she’s still producing milk. Both dogs also tested positive for heartworm.

“…both are almost bald, pus oozing from their ears, flies have eaten chunks from their ears,” Anderson County Humane Society posted in Facebook. “Odysseus has a tumor on his chest, and both still had the chain links hooked to their collars.”

Odysseus and Penelope may have a long road to recovery but the staff and volunteers at Anderson County Humane Society are making sure they feel loved. Yesterday, the two German Shepherds were treated to a spa day thanks to Kelsey of Tidy Tails.
Treating heartworm takes months of medication and Anderson County Humane Society will need help for these German Shepherds’ rehabilitation. If you wish to send donations for Odysseus and Penelope and/or other animals in the shelter’s care, click here. If you’re making a donation for the German Shepherds, indicate that your donation is for the Odysseus and Penelope.
Get well soon, Odysseus and Penelope.
